A Piece of My Heart

Chapter 1
What's a story without some key ingredients? Sugar, that sweet love that you can only get from one of grandma's cookies. Spice, embracing a journey's trails and tribulations. Who could forget the most important ingredient of all… Everything nice, that dramatic walk off into the sunset. And they lived happily ever after.
If I could put my story into three ingredients they might go as follow.. salt, for the regret that fills every tear that fell down my brown cheek. Pepper, for the confusion that took its place. Last cinnamon, because… I don't know I just like the stuff.
The bed was cold... I could feel a cool breeze flow through the window causing me to wrap myself in my covers. I turned over and found my face hitting a wet droll spot that woke me up for the day. I reach my arm out in search of the warmth of Serenity. But I only found a empty bed side. She must have woken up early and went home in the middle of the night. Of course she did, we had school the next day. We would sneak out in the middle of the night to see each other even if it was only for a few hours. Most of the time I'd walk her home but some nights she'd let me stay asleep because I was so tired. I guess you could say she was my sugar. We we're only 16 at the time . I thought I had everything figured out with me training for wrestling and Serenity working a part-time job, while also working with the drama department.
Her first performance was A Piece of My Heart. The play took place during the Vietnam war. It described the roles of six women before, during, and after their tour. The women consist of five nurses and a country western singer. I don't remember much. I couldn't even tell you the name of the character she played. In fact the only thing I can remember is that kiss.
