Chapter 1
I pledge allegiance to the flag, of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands. One nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all.
The daily song for the youth of Gables Elementary. We'd stand, then look to the upper right hand corner of the classroom. Only to stare at a tooth pic for a flag. My first grade teacher, "Ms. Walker" called it obedience, but I'd rather say brainwashing.
Malcolm, "it’s the flag you should be proud to be an American." Ms. Walker always had to make her comments. Well as long as it's only the flag and not the government. "Ain't nobody trying to die for the government." I replied, Laughing on the way back to my desk. That's when she walked in…

Chapter 2
The B stands for Beatrice. Except I don't like Beatrice. I just like the B and that's all. That tickled me.
She was wearing a white and red poke dotted sun dress, with stripped leggings. Pointed black polished shoes. Couldn't really tell you why but she kinda reminded me of Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. Maybe it was because I'd just came from seeing my cousin perform the night before.
She would help me with my reading while rehearsing her script. The cowardly lion searching for her courage. With the applause of the crowd, flowers are thrown with a bow. I knew she had found her heart of gold.
But where was I… The desk next to me was empty, so Ms. Walker told Junie B. to set next to me. Probably figured I'd be the nice guy in class.
My emphases signature, a Mickey Mouse picture with a message that read, "Hi I'm Malcolm" with an arrow pointing to me. But before passing the note I checked to make sure Ms. Walker isn’t watching. The moment her back turned, I tossed the paper on Junie B.'s desk trying to be as discrete as possible. Then swiftly turning my face away, placing my head on my desk. So she didn’t see me smiling.
Listening to the unfolding of the paper. A giggle appeared. I turned a side eye to hide but still see her facial expression. Raising my head to the sigh of a smile and her replying. Ms. Walker had turned into the wicked witch of the west, calling my name to read.. "Me of all people, I can't read." Its only three paragraphs from our American history book.
Chapter 3
The Revolutionary War
The American Revolution, arose from growing tensions between residents of Great Britain's 13 North American colonies and the colonial government which represented the British crown.
Skirmishes between British troops and colonial militiamen in Lexington and concord in April 1775 kicked off the armed conflict, and by the following summer, the rebels were waging a full-scale war for their independence.
France entered the American Revolution on the side of the colonists in 1778, turning what had essentially been a civil war into an international conflict. After French assistance helped the Continental Army force the British surrender at Jamestown, Virginia, in 1781, the Americans had effectively won their independence, though fighting would not formally end until 1783.
Stuck in a cold sweat, from not trying to make a fool of myself. "And I pronounced every word correctly" I thought to myself. Ms. Walker smiled, "good job Malcolm." Then called on Kara across the classroom to pick up were I left off.
Without realizing it Junie B. had already returned my paper. The blushing was evident, but when I looked at her… she wasn't paying me any attention. So I turned to the paper.
Met with a Tweety bird picture and a message that read, "are you my Sylvester." You knew that had to go in my pocket. Before I knew it, class was over and I made a friend.
